True Peace
How did this whole mess start?
In Adam's sin we all played a part.
Now we suffer through this life
I find nothing here but toil and strife.
Comfort for trouble we cannot find,
Whiskey and women should be sublime.
In work and worth we look for rest,
Only to find we can't pass the test.
Sin we find so deep within,
No answer found we rouse again.
Conscience we find our greatest foe,
On our pillows befriended woe.
We fight on looking for release,
Short moments of joy we find little peace.
Money and children, homes and careers,
All these things only bring us to tears,
Temporary relief we think we have found,
Eventually they leave us fettered and bound.
What is the answer that all of us need,
At the foot of the cross we must come to plead.
For mercy and pardon, release from our sin,
Only from Christ's blood shed for us do we find peace within.
